Trae Young’s team host the Sacramento Kings for tonight’s matchup at State Farm Arena, Atlanta.
After a good start to the season, the Atlanta Hawks are quickly coming back to earth, much due to Young’s injury and John Collins 25-game suspension. They come off a disappointing loss at home against the Bulls, the type of game where you need to win if you want any chance of making the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. Despite the loss, the Hawks are a fun team to watch and play a different brand of basketball under Lloyd Pierce guidance, the same as the Kings, a high tempo team. Newly acquired Jabari Parker is making an impact for the Hawks, now inserted in the starting lineup in Collins place, could be one of the players to get the team out of his current slump, averaging 15.1 points per game to go along with 4.6 rebounds. However, the main player on the Hawks, Trae Young, needs to perform even better than his current numbers, as he will have a hard matchup tonight against De’Aaron Fox.
On the other hand, the Sacramento Kings after a terrible start, seem determined to change the course of their season. They had a spectacular display against Toronto, but came short at the end 124-120.
"We showed growth again," Walton said. "I'm happy for the direction we're moving (in). It's a tough place to play, (they're) the NBA champs and they were making a lot of shots (on Wednesday). Our guys hung in there, stayed close. A week ago, this was a game that was turning into a 25-point game.
De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield look to be recovering their groove from last year, and even though they’ve lost Marvin Bagley, a key piece in Luke Walton’s system, Harrison Barnes is making it up with excellent performances in their recent games. The Kings 3-point shooting is improving as well, as they tied a franchise record 20 3-pointers in Toronto.
Sacramento looks to be on the uprise, while the Hawks have not played well in their last 5 games. Expect the Kings to run away with the win tonight.
