Atletico Madrid and Villarreal will face off on Sunday, for the Round 25 of La Liga.
Diego Simeone’s team is coming off an incredible win against the current European Champions, Liverpool, and will try to keep the momentum going against Villarreal for the main Spanish domestic competition. Reportedly, João Félix has recovered for this matchup, which could give Atletico’s manager more options upfront, now with Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata back as well. The only downside that Los Colchoneros could face is fatigue. Champions League matches are always very tough physically, something that the opposing team could take advantage of. The 1st 30 minutes will be interesting to watch, to see if they’re going to have a strong start, or if they’ll manage their load.
Villarreal is also coming off a win at home, against a much more modest opponent, Levante. They have been climbing the standings lately, and arrive here as a dangerous opponent for Atletico. Paco Alcácer was their most recent signing, filling a needed position upfront. With Santi Cazorla’s creativity along Gerard Moreno’s delivery, Alcácer has all the tools to be a great goalscorer for Villarreal. However, their form away from home has been shaky in their last few matches, as they’ve been eliminated by Mirandes from the Copa Del Rey and draw to Valladolid. Even so, expect a strong Villarreal squad to take on Atletico on Sunday.
Atletico is coming from a tough match against Liverpool for the Champions League, so I expect them a little more fatigued than normal. Villarreal should take advantage of that situation.
