Benoit Paire will face Marin Cilic in the 2nd Round of the 2020 Australian Open.
The Frenchman had to give his all in his first match at the Australian Open against Cedrik-Marcel Stebe, a lower ranked player outside the Top 100. He’ll now face a former Grand Slam champion, Marin Cilic, who’s not been at the top of his game recently. Still, the Croatian is an incredibly dangerous player, and if he’s on a good day, he could pose several challenges for Paire. His inconsistent play against Stebe will certainly lead him to defeat, however, the 30-year-old also has the ability to perform at an excellent level if he wants to. It will be interesting to see which side of Benoit Paire shows up tonight.
Trying to get back on the form that took him to Grand Slam honors, Marin Cilic has produced 4 wins and only 1 loss to start the 2020 season. There were doubts about his 1st round duel, due to Moutet’s recent run in Doha, but Cilic brilliantly surpassed that challenge. He’ll have ahead Benoit Paire in the 2nd round, and while the Frenchman could be a tough opponent, the former US Open champion should have what it takes to advance to the next phase. A deep run here at the Australian Open could be a huge motivation factor for the upcoming season.
After an excellent display in the 1st round, Marin Cilic looks to keep the momentum going against Benoit Paire. If he shows the same level, he should be able to go through quite comfortably.
