Borna Coric will face Lorenzo Sonego in the Quarter-Finals of the Rio Open ATP 500.
Coming off a hard fought win against Thiago Seyboth Wild, Coric netted his 3rd victory of the season, but the signs are not encouraging. The Croatian player is having trouble getting wins at this point of the season, and will face a good clay courter next up. He’ll need to up his game or he could see another exit, now at Rio Open. Injury problems have been keeping Coric from his best level, which is a shame given the player’s immense talent. Let’s hope fatigue doesn’t play a role in tonight’s matchup between these two players.
On the other hand, Sonego has started this tournament with two very good wins against Leonardo Mayer and Dusan Lajovic. He seems to be finding his rhythm on clay, and has a chance to advance to the Semi-Finals, as Borna Coric is not playing to his usual standards. If he gets his service going early on, he should feel good about his chances of going through. However, even if not at his best, Coric is always a dangerous opponent to face, so all precautions are not enough for Sonego in this matchup.
I’m expecting a close match between the two, but with Sonego coming out with the win at the end. His service could be a weapon for tonight’s fixture.
