The Brooklyn Nets leaded by Kyrie Irving will receive the new look New Orleans Pelicans tonight at the Barclays Center.
Both teams will enter tonight’s match holding a negative record, something that was hard to imagine before the season. Zion’s and Derrick Favors injuries played a part in that for the Pelicans, while the subpar performances from several Brooklyn players led them to some unexpected defeats. However, not everything is bad for the home team. Much was said last season about Kyrie Irving due to his troubled time in Boston, where the lack of leadership caused the team to divide into multiple groups, leading them to a 2nd round exit in the Eastern Conference playoffs. With a change of scenario from Boston to Brooklyn, his home town, the superstar seems to have embraced his role, starting the season on fire, averaging 30.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 7.5 APG. Even with a negative record, the Nets have everything it takes to go on a good run in the next few games, starting with the Pelicans.
Alvin Gentry and his team are off to a bad start as well. After winning against the Nuggets on National television, they proceeded to lose at Oklahoma when they played the Thunder. Zion Williamson injury was a big blow to the team’s playoff aspirations, even more when you’re in the Western Conference. Adding to that, Brandon Ingram could miss tonight’s game due to a head injury suffered in his last game. The youngster who’s performing at a really high level this season, has been Pelicans focal point in the offense, averaging 23.5 points along with 7.5 boards. The player passed all concussion tests, showing no symptoms that could take him out of the game, but reports still indicate that he’s a game-time decision. If that’s to happen, Jrue Holiday will need to have a big game for New Orleans to have a chance at Barclays Center.
Brooklyn will need a strong showing tonight after their latest defeat, and they should start the game full steam ahead in front of their fans. Pelicans defensive woes should continue with Zion and Favors out, as they will have trouble stopping the Nets forwards.
