The Detroit Pistons enter tonight’s game after a disappointing defeat against the Washington Wizards. They will try to change things in front of their fans when they meet the New York Knicks at Little Caesars Arena.
Dwayne Casey’s team arrives for this game with a few casualties in Blake Griffin (since the start of the season), Reggie Jackson, who will miss at least a month due to a problem in his back, and Derrick Rose who have missed the last two games, is questionable for tonight. Even so, they face one of the worst teams in the league, and are hopeful of a win against a lowly Knicks team. Ball movement has been an issue recently, and coach Casey expects to see an improvement for tonight’s matchup.
“I thought we tried to go a little bit too much one-on-one instead of moving the ball, making the right pass, playing with each other," Casey admitted. “And that's the only way we're going to win without our main guys out, is moving the ball, playing together. I thought we did that against Brooklyn but you can't do a once-a-week type approach. You've got to have it each and every night, a consistent approach.”
On the other side, the Knicks are currently 1-6 in their first seven games of the season, and although RJ Barrett is having himself a nice start to his NBA career, David Fizdale is just not succeeding in fitting all these new players in his system. Some of these losses have come in the last few minutes of the game, such as Spurs and Celtics, a stepping stone for this young Knicks team. It looks like this will be another wasted year for the historic franchise, as they’ll probably reach a high drafting position later in the year. If they still have high hopes to make the playoffs, it’s better to start turning those close losses into wins, as they’ll need to start climbing positions quickly.
Even with all the injuries, I still expect Detroit to come out victorious in tonight’s match. They are a tough team to beat at home, and the Knicks away record is not something to look forward.
