Manchester City and West Ham will clash tonight for Premier League’s Round 26.
Pep Guardiola and his squad don’t compete since the beginning of February, with their last match being a loss to Tottenham Hotspur and José Mourinho. The Premier League is practically over for them, as Liverpool have a huge point advantage over every single team. Even so, this match could be used as preparation for what’s to come next week. Manchester City will take on Real Madrid for the Champions League, and it will be interesting to see how Guardiola’s going to manage his squad for tonight and Saturday, when they travel to Leicester. They’ll try to avoid their third straight match without winning, something that they should be able to do against a fragile West Ham team.
On the other side, West Ham is fighting to avoid relegation. David Moyes has a quality squad, but they just don’t seem to be able to put it together. Their last win was against Gillingham for the FA Cup, a team from the minor divisions, on January 5. Ever since then, The Hammers haven’t been able to obtain a good result, putting them on the last three spots of the Premier League table. They have one of the hardest schedules until the end of the season, which can complicate their quest for survival. Changes are needed in London, and it would be good for them if it started tonight at the Etihad.
West Ham will try to take advantage of City’s position in the Premier League to take something away from this match. A reason why I believe this could be a high scoring affair.
