Olympiacos will host Arsenal in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Europa League. This will be the ninth official game between the two teams, the first one outside the Champions League, and could untie the head-to-head. The match is scheduled to start at 8 pm on Thursday.
A curious fact: in the eight previous meetings between these two teams there were no draws and the two teams shared the number of wins. In the first six games, the home teams were dominant, and in the last two, which took place in 2015, Olympiacos won in London and Arsenal won in the Piraeus.
Olympiacos enters the field with the status of leader of the Greek League, with a small margin over PAOK. The team led by Pedro Martins comes to this game in a series of eight consecutive victories and with an impressive record in the home games. The Thyrlos just lost one game at their stadium against Bayern Munich, in the group stage of the Champions League. Three of the last five games witnessed more than 2.5 goals.
Arsenal travel to Greece in a series of eight consecutive games without losing and with victories in half of those games. The Gunners come into play motivated after they achieve their best victory (4-0) since the arrival of Mikel Arteta, last Saturday. Finalists of the last edition of the competition, Arsenal will try, at least, repeat their presence in the decisive game this season. To do that it will be important that the defense manages to not concede goals, as happened in the last two consecutive games (it was the first time in the last 20 games). Three of the last five outings witnessed more than 2.5 goals.
Olympiacos: nothing to report.
Arsenal: Calum Chambers, Kieran Tierney and Pablo Mari Villar are injured.
We believe in a balanced game with few goals.
