Rafael Nadal will face Hugo Dellien in the 1st round of the 2020 Australian Open, a matchup that will occur for the first time.
Last year’s finalist, Rafa Nadal, starts his Australian Open journey against Hugo Dellien, a player who should pose no problems for the Spaniard. Coming off a loss in the ATP Cup, he’ll try to bounce back with a good performance in his quest to obtain a 19th Grand Slam title. The only question mark for this match is how many games Nadal will let Dellien win, as he’s the clear cut favourite. Rafa’s been improving his hardcourt play throughout his career, and if injuries don’t limit him these next two weeks, he should be able to make a deep run again at the Australian Open.
The Bolivian makes his 1st appearance ever in Melbourne, and the draw wasn’t the kindest to him. He’ll clash with Rafael Nadal tonight at Rod Laver Arena, the biggest court of the tournament, as he’ll try to make the most out of this matchup. Dellien comes from a tough loss to Michael Mmoh in the Auckland ATP Qualifiers, where he only was able to win a single game. The 26-year-old is more of a clay court specialist, and arrives at the 1st Grand Slam of the season without much practice on hardcourts. Only a miracle could see Dellien go through the 1st round.
Rafael Nadal is the heavy favourite for tonight. It will be interesting to see if the Spaniard is already playing at full intensity or if he’ll manage his condition against a much worse opponent.
