Sporting Clube de Portugal will face PSV Eindhoven at Estádio José de Alvalade in a decisive match for Europa League Group D.
Even though Sporting is top of the group, they’re in danger of missing the knockout stages qualification in their next two games. If they win the match tonight at home, they’re automatically qualified, however, even a draw could put them in a bad spot for the last game. Renan Ribeiro and Sebástian Coates are important absences for Silas, and with Bruma, Malen and Bergwijn returning to PSV’s attack, things could get ugly for the Portuguese team. Although some key players will not feature, they have a great opportunity to seal their spot for the next stage.
PSV had a recent result crisis mainly due to an injury outbreak. They spent 6 matches without a single win, returning to form against Heerenveen last weekend. With their firepower back in the offensive side, this could turn out to be a huge opportunity for the Dutch team to steal a win at Sporting’s home turf. However, their away form is not something to be proud of, as they couldn’t net a win in their previous four competitive matches, conceding an average of 2.75 goals per match. It’s important to keep an eye on Donyell Malen, as he’s been a big part of this PSV team, giving them a record of 9 wins and a draw when he scores a goal.
This match has everything to be pretty balanced, but the scale can turn a little bit in PSV’s favor due to the injuries Sporting’s facing in defense.
