Stefanos Tsitsipas and Philipp Kohlschreiber will meet each other on the Australian Open 2nd Round.
The Greek had an easy time on his first match in Melbourne, defeating Salvatore Caruso by 3-0. He’ll now face the German veteran, and although he’s the clear cut favourite, the 36-year-old could pose him some problems due to his identical playing style. Tsitsipas, ranked No. 6 in the World at the moment, is one of the few that could have a word to say about the Big 3 dominance in this Australian Open, as he’s set to clash with Novak Djokovic in the Quarter-Finals if everything goes right. The young talent defends Semi-Final points this tournament, so don’t expect him to facilitate in this earlier rounds.
Trailing the head-to-head by 2-0, Kohlschreiber will try to grab his first win ever against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 1st Grand Slam of the season. Coming off a title in Canberra, a Challenger tournament, he followed up by winning his 1st round clash with relatively easy, when he faced off Marcos Giron. Although he’s in the latter stages of his incredibly consistent career, the German could be a big problem for any given player if he’s on his day, hitting winners from both sides of the court. Stefanos’ the favourite, but it will be an interesting matchup.
Even though Kohlschreiber’s been playing some good tennis lately, I expect Stefanos to perform right away in this match, giving little chance to the German veteran.
