“Red Lantern” Stoke City receives one of the best teams currently in the Championship, West Bromwich Albion.
After some good seasons at the main level, Stoke City had a dropout in 2018, which resulted in the club’s fall to the Championship. The historic English club since then, has not been able to be competitive in the second tier of the their domestic competition, always battling to avoid relegation zone instead of the first spots, which grant access to Premier League’s qualification spots. Stoke’s been on a downward spiral, and they find himself this year in a tough position again as they are sitting at 24th place, with 2 wins, 2 draws and 10 losses. In 7 games this year at home, they’ve only managed to get a win, which curiously comes from their last home game against Fulham. Much of the problem comes from their defensive lapses, as they have conceded two goals in eight of their last ten home league games. Stoke’s chances to avoid being relegated again will get lower if they can fix their defensive woes, and they hope to start doing that tonight when they face West Brom.
On the other side, Championship contenders West Bromwich look to get back on track after two home games where they drew against lesser teams. This could be a good opportunity for Steve Bilic’s pupils to get a result, with a win making them leap to 1st place again. Surprisingly, the “Baggies” have conceded a goal first in five of their seven away games this current season, but have only been defeated once away from home. Stoke’s form at the moment is not good, and obviously West Bromwich will want to take care of business at the bet365 Stadium, hoping for a win that will put them top of the table.
I expect a match where both teams will be trying to win the game, so the opportunities will surge naturally for both sides. West Brom will try to solidify the 1st place in the Championship, as Stoke needs to start winning games if they want to avoid such a tough spot early in the season.
Both Teams to Score @1.80
