Valencia and Lille will clash tonight at the Mestalla in what could be a decisive game for Group H qualification spots.
The Spanish club is in 3rd place at the moment with 4 points, but could overtake Ajax, if they eventually win against Lille, and the Dutch team loses in Stamford Bridge. It is known that Valencia is not in the best of moments, as they’ve only collected one win in their last five home games, against a struggling Alaves. Even though their home form is not ideal, Los Ches are always a dangerous team in front of their fans with a record of nine wins and two losses when playing French clubs in European competitions. Gonçalo Guedes, Carlos Soler and Francis Coquelin are sidelined for tonight’s clash, which could prove to be a big blow for Albert Celades’ squad. However, they will try to put all their effort to win this match as it could be decisive for Valencia’s hopes to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.
Lille, on the other side, sit at the bottom of Group H with only a point, that came in the last minute of their previous fixture against this exact same team. They have conceded two or more goals in their two losses in this competition as they’ll try to fix their defensive woes when they face off Valencia in the round 4 of this year’s Champions League. Renato Sanches is the only player who is out for the match, so a strong lineup is expected for tonight. Lille’s last eight away games have resulted in 6 defeats and 2 draws, as they only scored 4 goals and conceded 13. It will be a hard task for them, but it could help that the Spanish club is not going through their best form at the moment.
This match proves to be more crucial to Valencia then Lille, as they have little hopes to qualifying for the next stages of Champions League football. Playing in Mestalla is no easy task for any club, and behind their fans I expect Valencia to come out with a win in the end.
