Vitória de Guimarães and Standard Liége will face each other at Estádio D.Afonso Henriques for the Group F of Europa League.
Ivo Vieira’s team has a very slim chance of qualifying for the next stages of this European competition, but they’ll fight until it’s not mathematically possible. Even though they only have 1 point in Group F, Vitória could give Liége serious problems as they’re a very good team at home. Andre Andre and Wakaso are the main absences for the home team, but their coach has a special way of finding another players who could provide a spark. Bruno Duarte, the main goalscorer for them is finding the net with relative ease, someone who could pose a problem for the opposition’s defense, as he needs few chances to put the ball in the net. In their last 6 Europa League matches, 5 of them produced under 2.5 goals.
Standard Liége is currently sitting 2nd place in this group, tied with Frankfurt, and a win here could propel them to have a really good opportunity to qualify in their last group game. However, history is not on their side. In their last four away games in Portuguese soil, they’ve only won once, along with one draw and two losses. It’s up to them to turn this statistic around in a very hard stadium like D.Afonso Henriques. Their last seven away matches averaged 3.57 goals a game, so it’s likely this one will produce a good number of goals as well.
Even though they’ve lost 2-0 in their first meeting a few weeks ago, Vitória had a nice display, and I expect them to have a similar kind of performance tonight.
