Jimmy Butler offered baskets to every teammate20 April 2020 / Miguel Coelho

Yesterday’s fixtures had many great storylines, such as James Harden scoring 59 points in one of the best games of the year already, Stephen Curry’s broken hand in a blowout loss against the Suns, or the Celtics comeback, stealing the win from the Bucks. Instead, every major news outlet is reporting the brawl between Joel Embiid and Karl Anthony-Towns, something we didn’t seen in a while on the NBA.
Both these players shared an animosity towards each other for quite some time, and when the 76ers played against the Timberwolves, it was must-watch TV. Let’s rewind the time a few years back.
An impressive comeback by Minnesota didn’t turn into a win at the end, but both Embiid and Towns seemed to be into it. The Sixer, was arguably starting to turn into a pro trash-talker, and he had the game to back it up. Always pushing the crowd to his advantage, Joel started to celebrate a technical foul given by the referees to Karl Anthony-Towns. Even though we could started to feel some tension when both faced up, it’s quite common for NBA players to hype the fans when playing in their home soil.
This is the day when the feud really started to blow up. The Philadelphia 76ers travelled to Minnesota and got away with the win. Embiid produced a nasty eurostep over KAT, and not happy about it, he went on to Instagram posting his lay-up taking shots at the Timberwolves superstar. Towns immediately responded to the post published on social media.

“That caption was as trash as your picture quality” Towns said.
“Better quality than your defense,” Embiid replied. Actually, he came from scoring 28 points on great efficiency, while being guarded by Towns that night. That must’ve hurt, but it was the truth. After this game, people had this matchup crossed in their calendars, as it started to escalate from a basketball standpoint to a personal level between the two.

Both teams entered yesterday’s game undefeated. The main storyline was Joel Embiid vs Karl Anthony-Towns, as they were playing at a MVP level during the first regular season games. It didn’t start too well for Minnesota, as they’ve reached half-time trailing by 19 points. Towns had two fouls on Embiid in the first-half but nothing predicted what was going to happen. In the third quarter, after switching on a pick and roll, Simmons sticked with the Center, lately receiving some help from Embiid, creating a double-team. Towns turned it over, starting a fast-break for the home team. However, in the midst of that play, two players fell behind the others. The fight started to take place with multiple punches thrown at each other, involving in a later stage Ben Simmons as well. This kind of behaviour is severely punished by the NBA, so we can expect lengthy suspensions for both players and maybe Ben Simmons as well, as he holded Towns by the neck in an attempt to slow him down.
Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns just went to blows. Ben Simmons involves himself. Insane scene in Philly. pic.twitter.com/k9ny83T12c— Sportsnaut (@Sportsnaut) October 31, 2019
