Current Houston Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni will probably leave the Texas team after this season is completed, unless they go all the way and win the Larry O’Brien trophy.
The 68-year-old couldn’t find an agreement with the board for a contract extension after several meetings, so chances he remains with James Harden and company are very small, according to sources. He had his ups and downs within the organization already, and people believe his relationship with the Rockets has been deteriorating over time.
Mike D’Antoni had two great opportunities to reach the NBA Finals, but they never seemed to seize the moment, crumbling under pressure against the Golden State Warriors in two different moments at home. His most notable stents in his coaching career have been with the Phoenix Suns, where he reached the Western Conference finals in two consecutive years, losing to the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks respectively.
It is rumoured that D’Antoni will receive much interest from other teams if he indeed turns into a coaching free agent during the next offseason.
