The limited-overs series between India and West Indies, which begins on Friday with a T20I, will have front-foot no-balls exclusively monitored by the third umpires. Announcing the development on Thursday, the ICC made it clear that the on-field umpires would be responsible for all other decisions "in the usual way" while the third umpire would monitor every ball for overstepping. "If there has been an infringement on the front foot, the Third Umpire will communicate this to the On-Field Umpire who will subsequently call a no-ball. As a result, the On-Field Umpire will not call a front foot no-ball without the advice of the Third Umpire. "If a late no-ball call is communicated, then the On-Field Umpire will rescind a dismissal (if applicable) and call no-ball. The On-Field Umpire will remain responsible for other in-game decisions in the usual way," the release further stated. The system was first trialed in the ODI series between England and Pakistan back in 2016. The ICC decided to test it again after its Cricket Committee recommended its use in as many limited-overs matches as possible.
Former South African cricketer Mickey Arthur was on Thursday appointed as Sri Lanka men's consultant head coach. Arthur, who is no stranger to high profile jobs in cricket, before taking over the Sri Lanka job, Arthur had been appointed on a short-term T20 contract with New Zealand side Central Districts. Zimbabwean Grant Flower has joined as the National Batting Coach and the Head Coach of the ‘A’ team. Flower has functioned as the batting coach of Zimbabwe and Pakistan National teams, prior to joining Sri Lanka Cricket. Arthur has now become the 11th head coach of Sri Lanka in the last eight years, and his first challenge would be to take on Pakistan. He was the coach of Pakistan till the end of the World Cup this year. Pakistan sacked Arthur after a series of poor results.
