Islamabad crashed out without reaching the knockout stages for the 1st time.
Pakistan’s humiliation continued as 2nd successive innings defeat against Australia resulting in a 2-0 whitewash. Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq said that the form of some of the main players in the team is a major cause for concern. "It is a worry for us, Yasir and Abbas are our main bowlers and some of our main batsmen like Azhar, their form is also concerning for us. We lacked a lot in the bowling department, we couldn't build any pressure and dismiss the Australian batsmen, this has always been a problem for us here," Misbah said on PCB's podcast. Pakistan had picked three young pacers for the Australia tour but the decision backfired. Pakistan's young pace attack might have failed to deliver in Australia but bowling coach Waqar Younis has backed the under-fire bowlers and admitted it was a disappointing performance. He said, "Yes I admit that we didn't get the sort of performances or results we wanted from them. But for teenagers you tend to be unable to maintain the line and length you need to bowl in test matches," Waqar said in a podcast from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Babar Azam is hitting the headlines for all the right reasons these days. He has transformed into a complete player for his team and is one of the very few players in the modern era to pile up runs on a consistent basis. Today, he is being compared with the superior likes of Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. While Pakistan’s losing streak in Tests in Australia soared to 14 matches and they dropped all three T20 matches, Babar was the only player who impressed everyone. Babar said “The confidence that you get from scoring runs in Australia is something that maybe you don’t get anywhere else”
