PCB Backs Misbah despite failure in PSL 202023 March 2020 / SkyBook365 Cricket Editors Team
Islamabad crashed out without reaching the knockout stages for the 1st time.
Australia have been dominant so far in the summer of cricket. The Aussies were completely dominant in Brisbane, winning inside four days by an innings and five runs. Pakistan’s new-look pace attack, new regime under Azhar Ali and new-look selection team led by Misbah left shellshocked. That all came without the production of Steve Smith, as David Warner rediscovered his form. Joe Burns secured his spot at the top of the order and Marnus Labuschagne further secured his spot at first drop with a big century. Aussie bowlers were simply outstanding at first test, which was too much for Pakistan to handle. On the other hand, Pakistan made their own mistakes, after Mohammad Abbas left out, the team is facing a massive collapse after a good opening start. While one can expect the hosts to put up yet another good show, Pakistan did show some fight from the opening Test, and cannot be treated lightly. Babar Azam's hundred was one of the biggest positives for Pakistan from the first Test.
Day-night Pink ball Test matches have been the center of much discussion in recent days. The second game of this series brings us back to the original home of the day-night Tests as the Adelaide Oval hosts its fourth match under lights. The question is whether the different conditions will help Pakistan to level the series. It was difficult to pick holes in Australia's performance although Tim Paine said the performance of the pace attack was slightly below the expectations they set themselves. The top order did an outstanding job, but it will be interesting to see how they respond if challenged with more movement than was on offer at 2nd test. While the format is still trying to figure out, it is clear as a key part of the future of the game.
