Islamabad crashed out without reaching the knockout stages for the 1st time.
Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara remained unbeaten on 37 and 43 respectively at stumps on Day 1 of the first Test in Indore on Thursday. India finished the day trailing Bangladesh's first innings total by 64 runs. Bangladesh managed to remove Rohit Sharma for six but failed to make any more inroads afterward. Pujara and Mayank are received with thunderous applause from India's coach Ravi Shastri in the dressing room. Earlier the day Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first but that rather backfired as they were bundled out for 150. There were no fifties on Day 1. Mushfiqur Rahim (43) Mominul Haque (37) batted well but a top-class Indian bowling unit did not allow them to put a big score on the board. It was a special show by Shami, who picked 3 wickets and missed out on a hat-trick. Ashwin too was quite disciplined on a pitch that had very less to offer to the spinners. Ashwin took 2 wickets on day 1.
The day 1, though, has belonged to the bowlers. India's trio of pacers Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami along with spinner Ashwin were absolutely sensational as they blew away the Bangladeshi batsmen one by one. Both Ishant and Umesh Yadav took 2 wickets Mohammed Shami took 3 wickets and missed out on a hat-trick. None of the Bangladeshi batsmen was able to stand in front of the Indian balling attack. Captain Haque scored 37 runs and Mushfiqur Rahim scored 43 runs but the Indian bowling unit did not allow Bangladeshi batsmen to put a big score on board Bangladeshi captain Mominul Haque made the right call for the toss, won it but made a horrible decision to bat first. At the end of the day, Shami said to an interview “I want to bowl according to the conditions and the situation. I want to stick to my plans. I have been going wide of the crease too in the last two years. I plan according to the batsman. You always enjoy when you do well for your team and country. I was thinking about the hat-trick during the tea break.”
