3 Academy prospects Paris Saint-Germain didn’t capitalize03 April 2020 / Miguel Coelho
Paris Saint-Germain has an history of wasting their youth talent. Who are they?
FC Barcelona continues to accumulate bad news before facing the most important part of the season. On this occasion the club made public a new injury of Ousmane Dembélé, the 22-year-old winger constantly persecuted by muscular injuries that in this case has suffered a complete proximal hamstring tear in his right thigh that leaves him out of the competition for the rest of the campaign. Although the club did not confirm the player's new recovery time, it would be of several months, and therefore his return for the knockout round of the Champions League against Napoli, the goal that was set from the club when he was injured last November against Borussia Dortmund, is completely ruled out.

In this way, the ordeal of the French attacker with the injuries does not stop. Since arriving at the Catalan club in 2017, he has missed 63 official matches because of this problem, a figure that will continue to increase in light of the latest information. Precisely the injury he is suffering now is the same as he had in his first season at Barça. The same one he suffered against Getafe in that 17-18 campaign and that cost him to be ruled out for half of the season. Since then, he was never the same again. Ousmane, a player who arrived at Barça without having suffered injuries in his previous teams (Stade Rennais and Borussia Dortmund), became a regular at the infirmary.
It’s impossible to forget that Dembélé arrived in Barcelona for a figure of over 100 million euros and with the aim of replacing Neymar after his departure to the PSG, but the injuries have deprived him of being able to offer at least an acceptable performance at the Catalan club. Looking back at those 105 million euros plus variables that the club invested in his signing, and taking into account that the player has only played 4,123 minutes in official competition with the Barca shirt, every minute of Dembélé's game has cost Barcelona 25,466 euros. Those minutes are divided into 74 different games, with a total balance of 19 goals and 17 assists. Figures far from those of a man who, in theory, had the task of making the fans forget about Neymar.

This injury of Dembélé only aggravates the problem that Barcelona will have in the offensive line from now until the end of the season. The Catalans have an excessively short squad to face all the objectives they have for this last part of the course and thinking about the recovery of the French they gave up on incorporating a new attacker in the recent transfer window that could have covered Luis Suarez's absence. For that reason, Quique Setién has only three attackers on the team and one of them is technically a player of the second team. Right now, Griezmann, Leo Messi and Ansu Fati are the only available options.
Carles Pérez, a player who, like Ansu Fati, was in first-team dynamics despite belonging to the youth side, was transferred to Roma, as well as other young players that could have served as a solution until the Uruguayan striker's recovery was confirmed. Now, and according to the regulations of La Liga after the serious injury of a player, Barça has the option of incorporating a player who is currently playing in the Spanish tournament, although it remains to be seen if this is the option chosen or if the club will decide to face the rest of the season with the resources they currently have in hand.
