The Champions League draw for the first round of the knockout phases dictated a rematch between Chelsea and Bayern Munich. The last time these two teams faced each other for the most prestigious European competition was in the final, curiously, at Allianz Arena, Bayern’s own stadium. Nicknamed one of the biggest upsets in football history, the Blues took home the Champions League title, beating the Germans in a deciding penalty shootout. However, Der FCB took revenge a year later at the UEFA Super Cup, winning on penalties as well.

While Bayern Munich seems like the better and most established team at the moment, Chelsea received some great news a few days ago. Their transfer ban was lifted, meaning that they could do serious business in the January transfer window, improving their squad. That could be the X-factor heading into the tie in February.
