UEFA admits the Champions League and the Europa League cancellation06 April 2020 / Rui Sousa
UEFA admits to cancel both tournaments if it is not possible to finish until August 3.
The altitude sickness is taking its toll on three of the five major league champions. Juventus, Bayern and, above all, Manchester City have experienced a notable downturn compared to last year. Only Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain maintain the privileged position they held a year ago at this point. Moreover, Barça is the only one that has increased its score by three points.
The fourth Guardiola campaign with the ‘Citizens’ keeps certain parallels with the 2011/12. In that season, his fourth and last at the Camp Nou, he signed his worst start with Barça (37 points). At the end of the course he announced his goodbye - "I feel empty," he said - after seeing how Mourinho's Real Madrid deprived him of winning his fourth straight La Liga title.
In England, there are already those who see symptoms of exhaustion in a team that has just won two Premier Leagues with record points: 100 in 2017/18 and 98 in 2018-19. The reality of this course is radically opposite. City, third, adds 12 points less than last season at this point. In fact, they add the same losses (4) as the whole last campaign.
Guardiola, meanwhile, is completing the worst start of his career. The 32 points he treasures worsen the 33 he added in 2016/17. It is not a good precedent. He had just landed in Etihad and signed his only year without titles. The former Bayern and Barça manager had never been so far from the leader: Liverpool already sits 14 points ahead.
In the Allianz Arena, despite Bayern’s bad start, there are reasons for optimism. They have three points less than last season at this time and have their worst position in the league since 1994/95. Interestingly, they are closer to the leadership. A year ago, they came back from a nine-point disadvantage to Dortmund to win their seventh consecutive Bundesliga, and now they are only seven points behind Gladbach.
The symptoms, in any case, were not positive with Kovac nor are they positive with Flick. Lewandowski's goals - he made history by scoring in the first 11 matchdays - covered the shortcomings of a team that started an insufficient renovation in summer. The last-minute signings of Coutinho and Perisic - they were not the priority - did not improve the latest version of Robben and Ribéry, nor did that of James Rodríguez.
In the defense, Lucas Hernández and Süle's injuries have drawn a black hole. Neuer has conceded more goals (20) than when they won the league in 2016 (17), 2015 (18) and 2013 (18). "Some players are on the wrong path," Kimmich complained.

Juventus got eight 'Scudetti' in a row - three with Conte and five with Allegri- and seeks the ninth with Sarri. You can't talk about a crisis, but you can't hide that the 'Vecchia Signora' had eight points more a year ago and was the leader. Now they are second by two points from Conte’s Inter. The problems, unlike City and Bayern, are not in defense as Juve has the second least defeated defense in the tournament with 15 goals conceded.
In attack, however, the pieces do not finish to adapt to Sarri’s 4-4-2 and associative football. Atalanta (37), Lazio (36), Inter and Cagliari (31) improve the 26 goals of a Juve that has won by a one goal difference in 11 of the 20 matches it has played among all competitions. "If I listened to all the criticisms, I would go crazy," says a manager who, to top it all, had some issues in his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, his biggest star. Additionally, Paratici’s signings (Danilo, Ramsey, Rabiot, or Buffon) didn't work either. Only De Ligt is a regular starter and things are not working as expected.
