3 Academy prospects Paris Saint-Germain didn’t capitalize03 April 2020 / Miguel Coelho
Paris Saint-Germain has an history of wasting their youth talent. Who are they?
Tottenham smiled again and achieved its first victory in six games and the first away win since January. It was in the debut of José Mourinho as coach of the Spurs after the painful departure of Mauricio Pochettino, a 2-3 over Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham that no one can consider a surprise given the history of the Portuguese coach: in all his debuts with English teams, with Chelsea twice and with Manchester United, Mourinho teams always took all three points.
It is said in the world of football that a coach who debuts wins, and that’s a maxim when it comes to Mourinho in the English league. The history of the Portuguese coach in the Premier League always begins in the best possible way, with victories, and so it was from his first stage with Chelsea. There he debuted at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United on August 15, 2004 and won 1-0 thanks to the goal of the Icelandic Eidur Gudjohnsen. Nine years later, and after his spells with Inter and Real Madrid, the 'Special One' returned to lead the 'blues' in a second stage, and there he had his debut against Hull City with a new 2-0 win with goals from Oscar and Lampard.
Later it would be the turn of his first game with Manchester United, this time in the Community Shield and facing Leicester, and there he again won 2-1 thanks to the last goal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Until now his record in England was perfect in his various debuts as a coach, although now he had a difficult challenge with Tottenham. The biggest difficulty was not the rival, since West Ham also goes through a difficult time and occupies the 16th position in the Premier, but the Spurs did not get the three points as a visitor in the league for 12 games, when they beat Fulham 1-2 on January 21.
But with Mourinho the streak broke and Tottenham won 2-3 over West Ham after completing a dreamed first 50 minutes. Son Heung-min opened the score in 36 ’after receiving from Dele Alli, and seven minutes later it was the Korean winger who assisted Lucas Moura in the second visitor goal. Son finished the match with a goal and an assistance to continue adding statistics to a spectacular year: he has scored 19 goals, being the top scorer of Tottenham in 2019 ahead of Harry Kane. Precisely the English striker did not want to miss the welcome party to ‘Mou’, and at the beginning of the second half took advantage of an Aurier cross to score the third of his team. It was his 175th goal with the Spurs shirt and he became the third top scorer in the team's history, behind the 208 goals of Bobby Smith and the 266 of Jimmy Greaves.
Michail Antonio and Angelo Ogbonna ended up making up the result to make the victory more suffered for Mourinho, but once again he ended up celebrating on his return to the Premier League. His next two games, against Olympiacos for the Champions League and against Bournemouth for the league, will be the first of the Portuguese in his new stadium, and will also be key for the team to regain confidence and face with guarantees the important matches that will come later. Without going any further, December 4th and 11th are dates marked in red on the calendar, since Mourinho’s men will face both Manchester United and Bayern Munich away from home. What nobody can do is take away from the Portuguese coach a new victory in his debut in England, in what already is a registered trademark.
