Godin close to leave Inter08 April 2020 / Rui Sousa
The defender failed to adapt to Conte's tactical system and could leave in the next transfer window.
Since their 4-0 Ligue 1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc Des Princes and their elimination in the French League Cup against AS Monaco, Marseille is on a 6-game winning streak and is now second in the French League. Much of Marseille's success comes from Payet's performances, as the French international has been producing great numbers for Villas-Boas' side.
Since 2006/07, the attacking midfielder played for Nantes, Saint-Étienne, Lille, and Marseille. During that period, Payet was at the Premier League with West Ham during all the 2015/16 season and half of the 2016/17 season before returning to Ligue 1 to play for Marseille. The player has delivered 90 assists in the French League, 30 more than any other player in that period!
Payet has been absent from Deschamps' calls since October 2018, when France played the UEFA Nations League match against Germany. There's a lot of competition for the offensive positions of the squad, with two names being unquestionable: Mbappé and Griezmann. Apart from the two stars, Deschamps has been calling Kingsley Coman and Thomas Lemar, with Lille's attacker Ikoné deserving the call lately. It will be difficult for Payet to crash into France's team squad but if the player continues to perform at this level, he might get the chance to play in what could be his last international competition with France: the EURO 2020.
