The Fight for the 4th Place | A Decisive Fixture21 February 2020 / Miguel Coelho
Who's coming on top Saturday? Chelsea or Tottenham?
Reinier Jesús is already a new Real Madrid player. This was announced on Monday by the Spanish club and Flamengo in two statements in which it is specified that the player signs for the next six seasons, until 2026. Real Madrid is now in possession of one of the most promising football players from Brazil and for a price of around 30 million euros. The white team repeats a story that has been lived several times in recent years and bets on a young player with great potential that they hope will be very important in the coming years.
Real Madrid has overtaken in this operation other European football giants such as Barcelona, ??Atlético, PSG and Manchester City, the four clubs that have fought the most for Reinier. But once again, as was already the case with Vinícius and Rodrygo, the great work done by those responsible for the operations of the white club has been key for the Spanish Giant to win the race for one of the jewels of Brazilian football.
Reinier, who has just turned 18, is a Brazilian midfielder who performs primarily as a second striker or behind the attacking line in a 4-4-2. Physically he stands out for its power and his tremendous athletic ability, in addition to having a technique above average. He has goal-power and personality to throw the team behind his back, as he did in several games with Flamengo despite his young age, and to decide matches.
With this hiring, Real Madrid continues to sign young talent for high figures but that may not be so if players reach the expected level and with the aim of finding that pearl that in the future becomes a world star. Odegaard, Lunin, Kubo, Vinícius, Rodrygo and now Reinier are currently the main exponents of a policy that began several years ago with players like Casemiro, Valverde, and Asensio, signed all three for no more than five million euros and all of them key players for the first team.
Reinier arrives to play initially at Real Madrid Castilla - second team of the club - this season, although he will usually train with the first team so that Zidane will take note of his skills for the near future. The news finds the player with the Brazil U23 team in Colombia, taking part of the Pre-Olympic tournament that grants two places for the Tokyo Olympic Games that will take place this year, and where the new Real Madrid player will presumably be one of the main attractions.
Jorge Jesús, Portuguese coach who leads Flamengo, was Reinier's last manager before he arrived in Europe, and has no doubts about his potential. “He is a very talented young man, but do not look at him as you looked at João Félix, with all the pressure he had. I believe a lot in Reinier, I had several talks with him and we talked a lot from the point of view of how he could be revalued, how he could be better, of his defects, of what needed to be corrected. We talked a lot, I showed him several examples of players to have a reference. He is a very intelligent young man, he likes to learn and I can say that he is a gifted person. Technically he is very strong and in the field, he is 5 years ahead, he plays as if he were a player of 22 in emotional and intelligence terms. Now he has to grow up, he's not João Félix, they're different. The Portuguese has more scorer characteristics, while Reinier has a very strong individual technique and does not like to play as a striker, he likes to have another player by his side and in the midst of the midfielders he is very strong,” explained the coach who predicts a brilliant future for the new Real Madrid player.
In the first leg of the round of 32 of the second European competition, most favorites obtained positive results.
