Almost all football activities have been suspended in the world due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With this, there are uncertainties that no one can answer when it comes to specific topics about Sports itself. When will it restart? Will competitions, be it football, basketball or tennis finish the season? How players at the end of the contract will proceed? According to multiple sources, the football transfer window could be open until January, as federations are still trying to work out a way to finish all the events postponed by this issue. There are major money deals who could be put on hold if all fixtures don’t get played in the next months, as no one knows when football will be resumed, let alone the transfer market.

The world governing body has set up a Working Group to determine some of the measures they’ll apply when it comes to the transfer market and contracts running down on June 30th. Agents have also protested, stating that no new information has been given to them regarding any change or proposal on the transfer window deadline. FIFA and all football authorities will need to act accordingly, or this could turn into a serious problem down the road, even if this is a complicated issue to deal with.
A person working for FIFA has stated some thoughts about this situation: “On 18 March the Bureau of the FIFA Council decided to establish a FIFA-Confederations Working Group in response to COVID-19.”
“This Working Group will assess the need for amendments or temporary dispensations to the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players’ to protect contracts for both players and clubs and adjusting player registration periods. This work has already started and will be conducted in consultation with all key stakeholders, including confederations, member associations, clubs, leagues and players.”
