The Santiago Bernabeu fans finally lived a peaceful evening and were able to enjoy Real Madrid's football in the 5-0 win over Leganes on Wednesday. And is that until this game the season had been a lot of suffering for ‘Los Blancos’ playing at home.
After starting La Liga with a good away victory against Celta, in their debut playing at home Madrid had to settle with a 1-1 draw against Valladolid, which meant the first disappointment of the season in the Santiago Bernabeu.
Then, after another draw at Villarreal, the ‘Merengues’ received Levante in their stadium, and what began as a placid night with a three-goal advantage, ended with a tight 3-2 and with Madrid looking at the clock, although at least Zidane’s men got their first win of the season at home.
The Champions League started in the worst way for Real Madrid with the tough loss against PSG in Paris, and after a second home win in La Liga against Osasuna, they received Club Brugge for their second European game.
But the Belgian team threat with a big surprise and went to halftime with a 0-2 advantage, which left Madrid in big trouble in their favorite competition. In the end the Spanish giant reacted and ended up achieving a draw five minutes from the end with a strike from Casemiro, although the Bernabeu continued to suffer and losing points against rivals that were anticipated inferior.
The doubts continued a few days later with the visit of Granada, and once again the afternoon seemed calm for Real Madrid with the 3-0 advantage with only half an hour to play, but the Andalusian team scored two goals and was very close to tie the game, although in the last minutes James Rodriguez certified the final 4-2.
The calm finally came on the eleventh league matchday with the clear victory over Leganes, with Benzema leading Zidane’s team with two assists and one strike, although we must not forget that their rival are the rock-bottom team in the table and that they have only won one match in the season.
The next two matches for Madrid will also be at the Bernabeu, first receiving Betis in La Liga and a few days later welcoming Galatasaray in a key match for their European aspirations. Later, and after an away clash against Eibar, Real Sociedad and PSG will mark if Real Madrid fief will be an ally in this campaign or if the Spanish team fans will continue to suffer every time they see their team play in their stadium.
