Laver Cup no, US Open… maybe17 April 2020 / Rui Sousa
Competition between teams from "Europe" and "Rest of the World" would go take place in Boston in 2021
Novak Djokovic is the leader of the ATP ranking as well as the chairman of the professional tennis players board. For this reason, and for all the weight and influence that his name has in sport, his opinion counts a lot for all issues related to the circuit. During a video call with other Serbian athletes, Djokovic spoke about the vaccination against the new Coronavirus and positioned himself against it, admitting that he will never get the vaccine voluntarily.
“I am against vaccination programs and this new virus is no exception. As a professional tennis player, I recognize that for our sport it will be difficult to return to normal life before there is a vaccine available, but only in case of being mandatory to do it I will think about that option. I don't want to hear that it will be necessary to travel again”, said the Serbian.
Despite being ideologically opposed to vaccination programs, Djokovic recognizes that “at some point” governments may require the vaccine to be mandatory and that could be the only solution for the competition to return, as the calendar provides different tournaments is different continents in consecutive weeks. For this reason, for the leader of the ATP ranking, it will be very difficult for everyone to return to the normal activity in August or September, as ATP has expected.
